Kim was born in Kadoka, South Dakota May 10th of 1952. The family moved to Ft. Pierre, SD from Phillip, SD shortly thereafter. Kim attended school, grades 1-12, in Ft. Pierre, SD. In his senior year, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on the delayed program. He left for active duty on Oct 13th, 1970. Then he went to boot camp in San Diego, CA and was assigned to the USS Hancock CVA-19. Kim saw three tours of Vietnam and was honorably discharged in November of 1974.
After his discharge, he returned to Ft. Pierre where he married and fathered three children, Seth, Haley, and Tawny, and stepson John. The family moved to White River, SD where he attended Sinte Gleska University in Rosebud, SD earning his associate’s degree. Not long after he divorced and moved to Troy, Montana where he remained off and on, until his return to Ft. Pierre in 2012.
He married his present bride Karla Hedman Hallock on October 11th, 2012 in Ft. Pierre where they lived together until Kim’s death. For those of you who knew Kim you know this is a very short and incomplete story of his life. The things Kim loved most in life were his wife, children, grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and veterans. Kim’s proudest accomplishment was serving as Commander of Stanley Post 20 of the American Legion. While at that position he (and help) created such programs as Active Duty Military Banners, Post 20 Baseball Field Program, and other activities that benefited veterans, youth, and the community.
Kim was preceded in death by his father Marvin, mother Burdette, brother James, and all grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Kim is survived by his wife Karla, Ft. Pierre SD; son, Seth Hallock Yuma AZ, daughters Haley Hallock, Cave Creek AZ, Tawny Hallock and stepson John Rieger both of Phoenix AZ and sister Kathleen Law, Plant City, FL and many beautiful grandchildren.
