Koy Curley, 24, of Stephan, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital, Pierre.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MST, Thursday, January 13, 2022, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte, with Mother Ellen Huber presiding. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery, Iron Lightning. A two-night wake will be 7:00 p.m. CST, Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Diamond Willow Ministries, Ft. Thompson, with a procession from Luze Funeral Home, Highmore, at 4:00 p.m. The second wake will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte, with a procession from the 4-mile near Eagle Butte at 3:00 p.m.
Koy Grant Curley was born February 24, 1997, in Pierre, SD to Virginia Howe and the late Terrance Curley, Sr. Koy grew up and attended school at Crow Creek Tribal School, where he was active in football and basketball. While in high school, Koy met Annie McBride, who has been at his side ever since.
After graduating in May 2015, Koy worked numerous jobs. He started working at Tokata Youth Center or otherwise known as the Boys and Girls Club of Ft. Thompson, SD. Koy enjoyed working with the youth. In 2016, after the loss of his brother, Kyle, Koy also lost his vision. He then attended the school for the blind in Sioux Falls. After spending some time there, Koy returned home and started helping at the youth center again.
Koy’s life will be cherished by his parents, Virginia and Royce Howe, Sr.; special friend, Annie McBride; brothers: Kaylan Curley, Claye Thunder Horse, Terry Curley Jr., Royce Howe Jr., Kyle Middletent; hunka brothers: Terrance Fox, Dontae Head, Trevor Thompson, Chance Sazue, Shawn Foote, Gabe Fletcher, Shane Sazue; sisters: Julia Yardley and Megan Middletent; hunka sisters: Chenoa “Lil Bets” Comes Flying, Bri Saul, Kylie Harrison, Jerrica LaRoche; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, grandpas, and grandmas. Koy had many friends, family, and buddies.
Koy was preceded in death by his brother, Kyle Curley; father, Terrance Curley Sr.; grandmother, Elvira Grace Curley-Agneaux; grandparents, Lillian and Ellsworth Brown Sr.; uncle, Jerry Curley; grandfather, Albert Yardley; uncle, Ellsworth “Butch” Brown Jr.; and stepsister, Marlena Thunder Horse.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Koy’s arrangements.
