LaJean Hansen, 85, of Brighton, MI and formerly of Gettysburg, SD, passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at her home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 28, 2021, at Grace Bible Church, Gettysburg, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in the Gettysburg Cemetery.
LaJean Hansen was born at home in Lowry, SD to William and Bertha Holzwarth on May 28, 1935. She grew up helping on the family farm and Holzwarth Service Station. She attended Lowry elementary school and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1953.
After graduation, LaJean worked for Northwestern Bell before marrying Elmer (Johnnie) Hansen in 1954. They made their first home in Huron, SD, and had three children, Karla, Kyle and Kirk. A career move took the family to California, Illinois, and Michigan before they made their way back to Gettysburg, SD, where she helped establish Hansen Plumbing in 1975.
She enjoyed attending school and sporting events, gardening, family gatherings, and just putzing around. She was a kind, generous, and soft-spoken woman who was strong in her faith.
LaJean’s life will be cherished by her children, Karla (Steve) of Pinckney MI and Kyle (Gillian) of Poulsbo WA; grandchildren: Stephanie (Ed) Hardesty of South Lyon, MI, Kevin (Robin) Reedy of Ypsilanti, MI, Kendra Hansen of Tacoma, WA, Casey Hansen of Seattle, WA, Kori Hansen of Portland, OR, and Jayden (Kirsten) Hansen of Gettysburg SD; six great grandchildren; and brothers, Vernon (Nona) Holzwarth, Texas and Ken (Pat) Holzwarth, California.
LaJean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Kirk; and grandson, Erik.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with LaJean’s arrangements.
