Larry Herman Diehm was born on July 19th, 1936, in Chamberlain, SD to Herman and Frances (Blanke) Diehm. He was the youngest of three children.
Larry grew up on the family farm south of Presho, where he farmed until 1973. The love of the land was in his blood. In 1973, he was united in marriage to Dianna Kenobbie and moved to Fort Pierre. He was in business with Mike’s Ditching, then went to work for Morris, Inc. He was great with a backhoe / excavator and spent many hours operating one over the years.
Larry and Dianna were blessed with two daughters, Mandy and Amber. They became the center of his life. He was very happy to gain a son when Mandy married Tony Nickolas.
Larry was a military veteran serving in the US Army and National Guard. He was very proud of his military service and a true patriot, who flew the American flag in his front yard. Larry was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre, a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of the American Legion in Ft. Pierre, and member of the area Archery Club.
Larry was a simple, God-fearing man. He took special, self-less care of his wife, Dianna and dog, Bow. He loved hunting, especially bow hunting deer with daughter, Amber, cat fishing, gardening, playing cards, watching football, and NASCAR. He loved watching his five grandchildren play sports, especially if he could bring his dog. He loved good hunting and fishing conversation and would tell stories to anyone who would listen.
Larry is survived by his wife Dianna, daughters Mandy (Tony) Nickolas and Amber (Craig Mowry) Diehm, grandchildren, Javis (Allison Sadler) Larson, Bellah, Lailah, Myah, and William Nickolas, sister Delores Marsh, sister in laws Wanda (Tony Carbone) Smith and Linda Roadcap, along with special nephews Monte Diehm, Gary (Kathy) Diehm, Rod Marsh, Russ Marsh, and nieces Donelle (Larry) Christensen, Margo (Ray) Ferguson, Beth (Ken) Hanson, and Carole (late Bradley) Diehm.
