Larry G. Griese, 85, of Gettysburg, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 14, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gettysburg, with Father Brian Simon presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the church with visitation one-hour prior.
Larry Gene Griese was born February 24, 1938, at Gettysburg, SD to Arthur and Mary (Anderson) Griese. He attended country school and graduated from Gettysburg High School. He joined the United States Army National Guard on February 21, 1957, and was honorably discharged on February 20, 1960.
Larry was united in marriage on February 12, 1958, to Charlotte Illiese at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hoven. They made their home northeast of Gettysburg on the family farm where they lived for their entire married lives and raised their five children.
Larry loved farm life. He started farming with his father and continued his passion his entire life, raising animals of all kinds: sheep, cattle, horses, pigs, and whatever else his children brought home. He also worked for Lebanon Equity and the Potter County Highway Department.
Larry served as a member of the Lebanon Equity board of directors and was a member of the Lebanon School Board. He also was a member of John J. Peters American Legion Post #159 in Hoven.
Larry’s life will be cherished by his wife, Charlotte; his children: David (Twila) of Hoven, Daniel (Carol) of San Jacinto, CA, Darrell (Rachelle) of Hoven, Darwin of Casper, WY, and Denise (Kevin) Hanson of Jackson, MN; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; siblings: Shirley Rust, Virginia (Bob) Simon, Janice (George) Reinke, Jerry (Juanita) Griese, William (Sandy) Griese, Karen (Jim) Doerr, and Patty (Richard) Weber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bob.
