Lawrence Andrew “Denis” Lepkowski was born February 2, 1944 at Oak Creek, WI to John and Elizabeth (Hemmick) Lepkowski. Denis was raised in Waukesha, WI where he attended school. After high school, he attended Marquette University, Notre Dame, and graduated from Augustana College with a BS in PE…
On December 26, 1971, Denis was united in marriage to Sandra Piti in Haverstraw, NY. To this union, five children were born William, Elizabeth, Theodore, Jessica, and Jeffrey. They moved to Chamberlain in 1973 where Denis became the Resident/Athletic Director at St. Joseph’s Indian School. In 1999, they moved to Sioux Falls. Denis became Director of St. Francis House for five years and then worked at Dakota Sports until his retirement.
Denis was an avid Green Bay Packers and Brewer fan. He loved announcing Chamberlain Baseball games and road tripping with Sandy…especially to the West Coast.
Denis was a member of the Chamberlain School Board and founder of the Inter-City Basketball League.
Denis passed away on September 12, 2022 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 78 years. Gratefully sharing his life are his wife Sandra (Piti) Lepkowski; three sons William (Christine) Lepkowski, Theodore (Christy Sieben) Lepkowski, and Jeffrey (Krista) Lepkowski; daughter Elizabeth (Jamey) Roush; three brothers Thomas (Barbara), Daniel (Theresa) and Andrew (Julia); two sisters Betty Ann Snopek and Juanita (Terry) Mendel; a sister-in-law Robin Lepkowski; and many nieces, nephews and nephews. He has 3 grandsons, Maverick, Stratten, and Wally, and a bonus granddaughter, Jillian.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Jessica, who is waiting to hug him in Heaven; two sisters Mary Lou and Ann Marie; and three brothers Jay, John, and Philip.
