Burial at Family Cemetery under direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge, SD. Lawrence entered the Spirit World on October 29, 2020 at this home rural Fort Yates, ND. Lawrence Gene Cheauma Sr. was born on August 14, 1937 in Fort Yates, ND to Helen Silk and Francis Gene Cheauma. Entered the Sprit world on October 29, 2020 at his home in Fort Yates, ND.
Lawrence was a very hardworking man. He made it to a point not to write down too much as he said the people knew the kinds of work he did. Lawrence retired from BIA after 28 years. Lawrence also worked in Tuba City, AZ for 8 years white he had a lot of very special Hopi friends. After retirement he loved the country life, enjoyed being around horses, cutting hay or fencing. At one time he had chickens, pigs and cows.
Lawrence is survived by his daughter Leslie Dunn, step-son Donald McLaughlin, a special friend of 47 years Althea Thompson, grandchildren Wacey Grass, Lawrenzo Miner, Dontay Cheauma, Kalista Cheauma, Zachary McLaughlin, Tayton McLaughlin, very special niece Renee Renville, very special nephew Jeff Boyer, sons Francis Cheauma, Joe Cheauma. Jr. Cheauma, Brandon Cheauma, AJ Agard, daughter Denise Cheauma, sister Edith Rhoades, brother Steve Essert, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Helen Silk and Francis Cheauma, daughter Helen Cheauma, son Harry Cheauma, brothers Jim Essert, Harry Dubray, grandfather Harry Silk, sisters Pauline, Ethel, Loretta, uncle Mark Cheauma, aunt Lydia Cheauma.
Casket bearers will be Kalista Cheauma, Wacey Grass, Lawrenzo Miner, Dontay Cheauma, Zachary McLaughlin, Tayton McLaughlin, Tyler Lawrence Handboy, Donald McLaughlin, Jeff Boyer.
