On the evening of Sunday, October 3, 2021, LeeAnn M. (Little Shield) Iron Bird, 35, of White Horse, made her journey to heaven. Greeting her with open arms were her son, Roman True, and our Father and his son, Jesus.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MDT, Thursday, October 14, 2021 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in the Dupree City Cemetery, Dupree, SD. A wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the church with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.
LeeAnn May Little Shield was born March 24, 1986 to Norman Little Shield and Mabel Romero. At the age of two weeks, she was adopted by Valtina Little Shield. From the age of two weeks Valtina raised LeeAnn like her very own daughter. At the age of eight years old LeeAnn changed her name to Jackie Ray, although everyone still called her LeeAnn.
LeeAnn grew up in Cherry Creek and attended school in Takini, Eagle Butte, Isabel, and Dupree. One of LeeAnn’s favorite pastimes was riding her bike, playing basketball, listening to music, going on the Little Big Horn Ride with her son, Hayzen, and spending time with her family and friends. She also liked riding horse and running and wicagalata behind the drum group, that always made her feel free when she sang. LeeAnn loved making new friends wherever she went.
In 2007 she met the love of her life, her very first born, Hayzen Cole Little Shield. Also, in 2007 she met her now husband, Lyndon. LeeAnn married Lyndon Iron Bird in November of 2011 and to this union five children were born: Nancy Faye, Chloe Jean, Kendall Layne, Zoe Sharlene, and Roman True.
She lived in Dupree, S.D, Pierre, S.D, Cherry Creek, S.D, and her now home White Horse, S.D where she was raising her family. LeeAnn loved being a stay-at-home mom, taking care of her children.
LeeAnn is survived by her husband, Lyndon “Fain” Iron Bird; son, Hayzen Little Shield; daughters: Nancy Fay, Chloe Jean, Kendall Layne, and Zoey Sharlene; parents: Valtina Little Shield, Norman Little Shield Sr., and Mable Romero; sisters: Rosa Little Shield, Shannon Romero, Santana O’Hara, DeeAnn Little Shield, JoAnn Little Shield, and Diane Little Shield; brothers: Kelly Romero, Norman Little Shield Jr., Josh Hale, and Richard Hale Jr.; uncles: Steven Little Shield, Clyde Little Shield, Sylvester Waloke, and Narlin (Dix) Little Shield; aunts: June Little Shield, Nora Little Shield, Marilyn Runs After, Arlene Demery, Rose Romero, Marion Romero, and Susie Romero; and godson, Payden.
LeeAnn is preceded in death by her baby son, Roman True; grandparents: Theophile Little Shield Sr., Myrtle Little Shield, Delmus Romero Sr., and Belva Romero;stepmom, Georgia Little Shield; aunts: MaryAnn and Judy; uncles: Morris Little Shield, Andy Little Shield, Theodore Little Shield, Max Romero, Delmus Romero Jr., and Nathan Little Shield; cousin, Nancy Little Shield; and niece, Heavenly Clown.
We are going to miss that big, beautiful smile and her laugh. She will be greatly missed by all.
