Leila Joan Red Tomahawk, 50, passed away at Banner Thunderbird Hospital in Glendale Arizona on September 18, 2021 due to COVID-19. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday October 14, 2021 at 1:00pm in Cannon Ball ND at the Cannon Ball Red Gym. A remembrance will be held from 10am to 1pm before the services. Monsignor Chad Gion will officiate services. Burial will be conducted at a later date.
Leila Joan Red Tomahawk was born in Fort Yates ND on January 9, 1971 to Selma “Sally” Lincoln and Peter Red Tomahawk Jr. She passed away at Banner Thunderbird Hospital in Glendale, Arizona due to COVID-19 on September 18,2021. Services will be held on October 14, 2021 at 1:00pm at the Cannon Ball Red Gym in Cannon Ball ND.
Leila pronounced LIE-LAH was second oldest of ten children. She was the oldest daughter and came from a big family. On her mother’s side of the family included Nancy Black Cloud family, Elsie Standing Bear family, Cecilia Ramsey family, and Samson Two Shields family and Mr. Pat Two Shields.
Leila graduated from Mesa High School on June 1, 1989. In December 1991 she married John Tabeek and from this union they had one son, Forrest John Tabeek. In 1995 she married Aaron Walker and from this marriage she had three children, Lilith Walker, Ciarra Walker and Caylee (Tristan) Walker. Leila was a grandmother to four grandchildren. Deaglan, Cadence, Jenicee, and Khaleesi.
Leila was a happy go lucky woman. She made friends very easily. She was full of life and one of the best big sisters. When she way younger she was raised by Mr & Mrs. Roger and Patricia Werre. She was loved beyond measure with so much family. She grew up in the Phoenix Area and had so many friends. She shared her last five years with Mr. John Cotter and she was the love of his life.
Leila’s favorites were the Dallas Cowboys, elephants, alternative music. She would come home to ND to visit in the winter time and freeze, we think she liked the sound of snow crunching underneath her feet and also making snow angels. She would always call home on holidays or birthdays even if she was a week early and would sing Happy Birthday at the top of her lungs. Leila’s favorite color was green with her favorite flower being carnations.
Leilas Pallbearers will be: Mr. Anthony Vetter Sr., Mr. Lee Vetter Sr., Mr. Wyatt Red Tomahawk, Mr. Wilfred Red Tomahawk Jr., Mr. Desmond Conica and Mr. Sherman Standing Bear.
Leila is survived legally by her husband Aaron Walker, her son Forrest John Tabeek, her daughters Lilith Walker, Ciarra Walker and Caylee (Tristan) Walker. Grandchildren, Deaglan, Cadence, Jenicee, and Khaleesi. She was loved by her partner and longtime love Mr. John Cotter.
She is also survived by her father and Stepmom, Pete and Alvina Red Tomahawk of Cannon Ball ND, her loving parents Roger and Patricia Werre of San Tan Valley, Arizona. Sisters: Gail Uses Arrow of Cannon Ball ND, Roshelle Neal of Arizona, Tamara (Henry) Harrison of Fort Yates ND, Marcella (Sherman) Red Tomahawk of Cannon Ball ND, Erica Conica of Cannon Ball ND and Shalonda (Scott) Many Horses of Porcupine, ND. Brothers: Robert Werre of Arizona, Lawrence Holtz of Kentucky, Kyle Red Tomahawk Sr., Marcellus Red Tomahawk, and Eric Conica of Cannon Ball ND. Aunts: Kathleen (Anthony) Vetter of Porcupine ND, Jeanette Courchene of Williston ND. Uncles: Wilbur (Ava) Red Tomahawk of Porcupine ND, Wilfred (Jeanette) Red Tomahawk Sr. of Fort Yates ND. 13 Nieces and 11 Nephews and half the tribe of cousins.
Leila was proceeded in death by her mother Sally, her brother Joseph Red Tomahawk, her maternal and paternal grandparents.
