Funeral services for Lemar Chasing Hawk, 65, of McLaughlin will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Blue Gym in McLaughlin. Burial will follow at the Elkhorn Cemetery in Little Eagle. A prayer service will begin at 6:00 pm, Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Blue Gym followed by an all-night wake. A procession will leave Kesling Funeral Home at 3:00 pm, Friday. Lemar passed away Monday, December 8, 2025, at Good Samaritan Center in Mandan.
Lemar Jess Chasing Hawk was born on June 19, 1960. He was born to Eleanor Bear Ribs and Ivan Traversie. He was raised by his grandparents Ambrose & Ruth Chasing Hawk in Little Eagle.
At a young age he was an excellent drummer and never needed lessons. He was a natural and played in many bands in Wyman, Co. He played with Marlon Hunt and Jimmy Ross to name a few. Lemar was a champion dancer in traditional, grass, and fancy dances. He won the “All American Indian Champion Dancer” award in Ashland, MT. Throughout his life he was always a compassionate person. He had a very good and kind heart.
Lemar is survived by his siblings Pete, Kirk, & Jodene Flying Horse, Kevin Bear Ribs Sr., and Adele Elk Looks Back, Myron and Mini Fast Horse, Audrey & Mathew Elk Looks Back, his children Kenny, Ernestine, Tanya, and Jessica, grandchildren Ashton, Karen, Harmony, Xavier, Honey, Dwayne, Kalia, Cameron, Nikolai, Jeweliyah, and Mia, nieces and nephews Sybil, Robin, Art, Bridget, & Roland Jr. Taken Alive, Kimberly Smith, Ava White Dog, Kermitta Miner, Kermit Jumping Eagle, SchaLemar Flying Horse. We apologize if we forgot anyone, there are too many too mentioned.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Eleanor Bear Ribs & Ivan Traversie, his son Jonathan his brothers Dean Bear Ribs and Robert Foote Jr., grandmother Mary Howard Bear Ribs, grandfather Andrew Bear Ribs, and his grandparents that raised him Ambrose & Ruth Chasing Hawk.
