Funeral services for Leonard E. “Granny” Marsh, 97, of Reliance, SD will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the Reliance Methodist Church in Reliance, SD with burial in the Reliance Cemetery at Reliance, SD. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain.
Leonard Edwin “Granny” Marsh was born December 30, 1923 to Cleo and Madge (Somers) Marsh at Iona, SD. He attended school at Oacoma where he enjoyed playing basketball.
Around the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and moved to Washington state. Due to a medical issue from childhood, he was Honorably Discharged shortly after enlistment. He remained in Washington and worked as a pipe fitter in the shipyards. Around 1944, Granny returned to the Oacoma area where he worked various jobs including at Labidee’s Standard Station.
On April 8, 1951, Leonard “Granny” married the love of his life, Rosemary “Mac” McIntyre in Chamberlain. He later worked for Redi-Mix and finally for the Karlen Family Ranch where he worked for over 20 years until retiring around 2005.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapshooting. He loved gunsmithing.
Leonard passed away on August 5, 2021 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 97 years. Gratefully sharing his life are his three sons Larry and wife Carol of Kasilof, AK and their son Justin, Denny and wife Lori of Reliance, SD and their children Christopher, Britteny, and Kory, and Jerry and wife Penny of Reliance, SD and their son Shawn; and six great grandchildren Lily, Reghan, Evert, Jaymson, Jack, and Leo.
Preceding him in death were his wife Rosemary “Mac”, parents Cleo and Madge Marsh, three brothers Lee, Lyle, and LeRoy, and a sister Linda Zanol.
