Lila Alene Ludwig, a loving, faith-filled, and creative woman, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2023, at Oahe Manor in Gettysburg, South Dakota. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00pm, Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Feigum Funeral Home, concluding with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Funeral Services will take place at 10:00am, Friday, May 26, 2023 at Onida First Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at the Onida Cemtery.

Born on June 18, 1936, in the Onida Hospital, Onida, South Dakota, Lila was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and generosity. Her life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and creativity, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Lila was a proud graduate of Onida High School and furthered her education at South Dakota State University, where she honed her secretarial skills. She then worked for the state department of motor vehicles for a few years before marrying Newell Ludwig in June of 1958. Lila and Newell settled on a farm east of Onida, where they raised their children and built a life together based on love, hard work, and a commitment to their community.
As a founding member of the quilt guild and an active participant in the extension club since the 1960s, Lila’s creative talents and passion for quilting, sewing, baking, gardening, and canning were evident in all aspects of her life. She was a dedicated 4-H member and later a leader, inspiring countless young people to develop their skills and interests. Lila’s commitment to her church, the Onida First Presbyterian Church, was unwavering, and she served in many capacities over the years. Her faith guided her every step and was a source of strength and inspiration for those around her.
In 2020, Lila received the “Friend of the Fair” award from the Sully County Fair, a fitting tribute to her dedication and contributions to her community. She and Newell loved to travel, play cards, and spend time with neighbors and family, creating memories that will be cherished by all who knew them. Lila’s legacy is one of love, service, and creativity, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Lila is survived by her children, David Ludwig, Sue (Victor) Stotz, Starla (Owen) Luoma, and Danelle (Todd) Youngbluth; sister Leah Gray, sister Melissa (Darrell) Lilly, sisters-in-law Karen Day and Kay (Harry) Thomas; grandchildren Michael (Julie) Ludwig, Desirae (Jay) Noteboom, Dayna (Matt) Husman, Heather Ludwig, Reed Ludwig, Cody (Mindy) Stotz, Jessica (Andrew) Mefferd, Tyler (Allie) Luoma, Ryne Luoma, Mason Luoma, and Alayna Youngbluth; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Charlotte (Kitchen) Blaisdell, husband Newell Ludwig, granddaughter Alene Stotz, and brothers Marvel, Kermith, and Gerald.
In celebrating Lila’s life, we honor her strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her family and community. Her life was a shining example of the power of love, faith, and creativity, and her memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know her. Lila Alene Ludwig, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
