Lila Faye was born on December 28, 1947 at the Old Cheyenne River Agency to Tuffy and Mary (Collins) Ducheneaux. She was number 11 out of 14 children. Lila Faye was raised on the banks of Virgin Creek in Promise, S.D. She attended school in Promise, White Horse, Stephan and lastly Timber Lake. This is where she met and fell in love with Ronnie Long. They were married on January 17, 1966. She remembers people saying, “It’s never going to last.” Needless to say, they just celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. To this union they had three daughters, Bonita Richter, Rhonda Takes The Knife and Sheri Long all of Timber Lake. In 2000 she adopted a son, Eric Tuckner of New Richmond, Wisconsin.
Lila was a kind, caring lady who would do anything for her loved ones. She was always laughing and joking. Her laugh was contagious. Lila loved her grandchildren and was very proud of them. She enjoyed driving through the pasture looking at her cows. Branding time would find her sitting with her cap on, pen and paper in hand, counting her herd. As everyone knows, she fed EVERYONE. She enjoyed cooking, especially during the holidays. She loved music, every kind of music, but Elvis was her favorite. Lila enjoyed reading, word search, playing cards and Yahtzee. She also loved camping and visiting with everyone.
Lila loved Facebook! She didn’t quite have it completely figured out and she would call one of her daughters in a panic wondering how to remove something she accidently put in there. She had a hard time sleeping, so one would randomly get a call in the middle of the night.
She is loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Lila is survived by her husband Ronnie. daughters, Bonita Richter, Rhonda (Gerald) Takes the Knife and Sheri (Marty) Thompson, and son Eric (Abby) Tuckner; grandchildren, Jaclyn, Marilyn, Gerald Jr., Dayton (Tommy), Justin, Jamie, Ronnilyn, Skye, Alli, Cheyenne and Kaycie; great grandchildren, Ridge Rowdy and Bryar Blair.
