Linda J. White Owl, Wambli Sha Win (Red Eagle Woman), 68, of Mandan, ND, passed away on October 16th, 2023, following a car accident. Visitation and services are scheduled for 11:00AM on Saturday, October 21st at the AJ Agard building in Fort Yates, ND. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge is in charge of arrangements.
Linda was born on November 24th, 1954, in Fort Yates, ND to Leonard and Mildred (Nagel) Alkire. She was raised in the country north of Kenel, SD and graduated from Fort Yates High School in 1973. In 1975, she graduated with her Dental Assistant Certification in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Linda worked in Oklahoma, Montana, South Dakota, and New Town, North Dakota. She married Herbert (Skip) White Owl Jr. in 1977, and they remained married until his death in 2002. Linda worked and lived in New Town for nearly 30 years; she experienced a lot of gratitude from helping others in her work, and due to health reasons, she retired in 2003.
Linda genuinely enjoyed life. She held fond memories of participating in all kinds of outdoor activities, including fishing, golfing, riding horse, biking, and attending powwows. She felt trying something new was the reward – “just to try.” She also loved cooking (and eating), beading, reading, playing cards, and doing art projects. Being an active member of the Catholic Church and being connected to Native culture were both very special to her.
Linda will be remembered by her family and friends as a compassionate person who savored life’s special moments. She will be greatly missed.
Linda is survived by three sisters: Carol Alkire of Fort Yates, June (Tom) Marshall of Bismarck, and Candace Hinkley of Thousand Oaks, CA; and four brothers: Kenny (Corinne) Alkire, Gary Alkire, Brent Alkire all of Fort Yates, and Curt Alkire of Hazen, ND; and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mildred Alkire, her husband, Herbert Jr., granddaughter, Qulyssia Elizabeth Rose Alkire “Baby Q” and her grandparents.
