As a devout Christian, Lorraine Ellen (Schlomer) Fowler answered her call from Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Jan. 24, 2023, to walk with Him to her eternal home. Lorraine was excited for Him to call her home.
Lorraine was born on Nov. 27, 1933, to John and Hanna (Lemke) Schlomer in Mobridge. Like so many of her family, Lorraine was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Glenham.
Lorraine graduated from Glenham School, received a teaching certificate from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen and taught in Bath.
Lorraine was married to Everett Fowler for 57 years until his passing in 2012. Together, they raised six daughters. As a homemaker and bookkeeper, she excelled at her skills. She was always a kind and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to so many and will be dearly missed by all.
Lorraine is survived by daughters, Deborah Barnes, Cynthia (Dwight) Luedtke, Susan (Brian) Flanery, Belinda (Jim) Marcrum, and Sandra Fowler; son-in-law, Craig Kuckelburg; 17 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Guy (Cheryle) Fowler; and sister-in-law, Aldene Steele.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; daughter, Brenda Kuckelburg; son-in-law, Dana Barnes; her parents, John and Hanna Schlomer; and brothers, sisters and respective spouse, Charlie (Mabel), Dorothy (Gene Beckman), Cody (Blanche), Walter (Maria), Henry (Myrtle), Ruth (George Lund/Alvin Retzer), Gertrude (John Wiersma), Richard (Vivian), Alvin, Leona (Marlyn Rygh), Gerhard (Agnes), and Victor (Dorothy).
Funeral services for Lorraine, 89, most recently of Walworth County Care Center in Selby, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mobridge with a family service from 7 p.m. on Friday.
Burial will be in Glenham Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.
