Loveleah In The Woods, 90, of Dupree, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024, at Medicine Wheel Village, Eagle Butte.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MDT, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Pioneer Hall, Dupree. Burial will follow in the Congregational Cemetery, Cherry Creek. A wake service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at Pioneer Hall with a procession from the 2 mile east of town at 4:00 p.m.
Loveleah In The Woods was born on April 7, 1934, in Little Eagle, SD to John and Mazie (Blue Eyes) In The Woods. Loveleah attended school in Cherry Creek, SD until the 8th grade. She then stayed at home to help her elderly parents with chores. The family moved to Dupree in 1949. She continued to help her parents until her father’s passing in 1956. In 1958, she was blessed with a son, Larry In Woods. While caring for her mother, Mazie, and her son, she learned how to “mechanic” cars with her uncle, Jobe In The Woods and her cousin, Bentley. Loveleah was overjoyed when she was blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Lindell.
In her lifetime, Loveleah worked for the Tribal Children’s Emergency Shelter for many years. When she became a grandmother, Loveleah decided to stay at home and help care for her grandchildren. She became active in the Grandparent’s Program and worked at the Tribal Daycare for several years until the program ended. Loveleah enjoyed bingo, being an active Dupree community member, visiting with friends and relatives, attending powwows, and trying her luck at an occasional casino visit.
Loveleah is survived by her daughter, Lindell (In The Woods) High Bear, Dupree, SD; grandchildren: Starlynn, Carlys, Karlisle, April, Zach, and Thunder all of Dupree, SD, and Lorraine In The Woods, Cherry Creek; cousins: Bernard (Bernice) Woods, Bessie Moudy, Bentley In The Woods, Barney (Nancy) In The Woods, Bryce (Candace) In The Woods, Charlene Red Thunder, Bernita In The Woods, Belinda In The Woods; and a hunka sister, Margie Blue Coat.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mazie In The Woods; son, Larry In Woods; grandson, Storm High Bear; cousins: Rechinda (Coke) Bowker, Beverly Clown, Byron amd Burton In The Woods; two sisters, Iva and Lorraine In The Woods; and two brothers, Louellen and Levi In The Woods.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Loveleah’s arrangements.
