Lurantine Zeigler, 96, of Seneca, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Highmore Health, Highmore, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the United Church of Faulkton with Pastor Thomas Sumers officiating. A prayer service will be 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the church with visitation one-hour prior. Burial will be at a later date in the Oakland Cemetery, Seneca.
Lurantine Elsie Bucholz was born to Leonard J. and Elsie (Pesicka) Bucholz at Carpenter, SD on January 19, 1925. “Laura” was the oldest of seven siblings. At an early age, she assisted in caring for her younger brothers and sisters. Laura attended area schools and graduated from Armour High School in 1943.
Laura and her family operated Harrold’s Café in Harrold, SD. While there, she met Arnold Zeigler, who operated the Playhouse Theatre. Arnold would often stop at the café for coffee.
Arnold and Laura were married June 11, 1951, in Hand County, SD. Arnold was drafted into the United States Army and Laura joined him in Ft. Gordon, Georgia, while he attended Signal Corps instruction there. They then traveled to Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey, where their son, Wayne, was born. Arnold was transferred to Korea, and Laura and Wayne returned to the Zeigler family farm north of Highmore, SD. Upon Arnold’s return from Korea, Arnold, Laura, and Wayne joined the family farm near Highmore. In November of 1955, the family purchased a farm located southwest of Seneca from Al Seibel.
Throughout the years, Laura was a member of several organizations and clubs, which included the Seneca American Legion Auxiliary, in which she held numerous offices, and was secretary for many years. She also was active in the United Methodist Women of Seneca and the S. and E. Club. Her pastimes included reading, playing cards, crossword puzzles, fishing, and playing the drums in the Zeigler Family Band.
Those left to cherish Laura’s life are her son, Wayne of Seneca; grandson, Daryn and his wife, Kari and their sons, Garrett and Treyson all of Gettysburg; sister, Iona Mashek of Highmore; sisters-in-law: RoseMary Bucholz of Lake Andes, SD, Reta Bucholz of Golden, CO, and Rose Bucholz of Seattle, WA; brothers-in-law: Lane Zeigler of Highmore, SD and Henry “Hank” Zeigler of Pierre, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold in 2009; son, Larry; daughter, Arlinda; brothers: Bob, Hap, Dan, and Teeny Bucholz; sister, Yvonne Bucholz; sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Bucholz and Joyce Zeigler; and brothers-in-law: Ray Mashek and Vernal Zeigler.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Lurantine’s arrangements.
