TAKINI, SD – Mahlon O. Jeffries, 62, of Takini, made his journey to the spirit world on Friday, August 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo ND, due to the results of an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. MDT, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Pioneer Hall, Dupree. Burial will follow in the Eagle Butte Cemetery. A wake service will be 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2025, at the hall, with a procession from the 2-Mile at 4:00 p.m.
He was born to Frank and Corrine Jeffries on February 21, 1962, and was raised in Dupree, SD.
Mahlon was an avid boxer in his younger years, taught by Pete Longbrake and Dean Schrempp. Mahlon was a fantastic horseshoe player. He was never far from a horseshoe game, often traveling with his sisters and his late brother, Milton Jeffries, far and near to take home top prize. He loved challenging his brother Milton to play a game.
Mahlon also loved music, he was a self-taught guitarist and participated in several drum groups. He believed in traditional medicine when he was hurting. He loved cooking and baking, often trying new recipes with his family. In one of his letters, he said his favorite kind of music was Blues, Rock, Classic Rock and Classic Country. His favorite album was Pink Floyd, the Pulse followed by Stevie Ray Vaughn. His favorite colors were blue and green.
Mahlon was also a self-taught artist, often decorating his envelopes with hand drawings and sketches.
After high school he completed UTEC in Bismarck, ND with an auto-mechanic’s degree and had a varied employment history. Mahlon spent time at his home in Takini, loving the simple life.
Mahlon was blessed with seven children: Kyle Jeffries (deceased), (Lil) Mahlon Jeffries, Preston Tyrell (Ty) Jeffries, Alexander J. Jeffries, Kalen O. Jeffries, Layton Jeffries and Byron Waloke; and his legacy continues with his many grandchildren; and his siblings: Kathy Jeffries, Karen Jeffries (Ken Birkeland), Debra Jeffries, Della (Jeffries) Martinmaas (Cyril), Lonnie Jeffries (Michael Ball), Waylon Jeffries and Raylene Marshall (Hunka sister).
He is preceded in death by his son, Kyle Jeffries; brother, Milton Jeffries; mother, Corrine White Weasel-Janis; father, Frank M. Jeffries; grandparents: Oscar and Ester (Ward) White Weasel, Mahlon Oscar Jeffries, Jenny (Drury) Jeffries; uncles/aunts: Margie Lucille Iron Hawk, Beatrice Louise Janis, Timothy White Weasel and Louis White Weasel; nephews: Wade Jeffries, Quentin LeCompte and Kelly Gene Clown.
