Funeral Services for Margaret A. Cutt, age 71 of McLaughlin, SD will be Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 11:00AM CST at the Blue Gym in McLaughlin, SD. Margaret passed away in Sioux Falls, SD on June 7, 2022. Arrangements have been entrusted to Oster Funeral Home.
Margaret Ann Cutt was born on July 5, 1950 to Emmett Martin Sr. & Myrtle Many Deeds Martin in Little Eagle SD. She grew up by Good Shepherd area with her grandparents John & Fannie Standing Cloud when her parents were out working. Her dad Emmett was a layreader within the Episcopal church so they moved to different surrounding areas where he was needed. She attended school in Bullhead and McLaughlin and would later get her GED in 1971. She then traveled to San Francisco CA on a relocation program for a short time. Upon returning she attended United Tribes Technical Center. She married the love of her life, Homer Lee Cutt on November 4, 1977. Throughout her life she lived in many places. Little Eagle, McLaughlin, Mitchell, Aberdeen, Parmelee, Mission, Pierre and eventually came back to McLaughlin where she lived til her passing. She worked as a secretary within different programs of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. While living in Pierre for over 20 years, she helped start the Twin Cities Powwow in Ft. Pierre. She was also a part of the Bear Soldier Elderly when they had a part in the district meetings. She was a pool player, she liked to throw horseshoes, she loved going to bingo in her younger years. As she got older those hobbies turned to beading, sewing, and making regalia for her grandkids and great grandkids. She entered the powwow circle around 2010 as a women’s traditional dancer. She would travel to many powwows to dance along with her family.
She is survived by her husband Homer, daughter Melinda (Michael) Dunkley, grandchildren, Jackson Red Bird, Stevie Red Bird, Lisa Bullman (Cetan), Ericka Horse and Jacob Horse. Great grandchildren, Talon, Memphis, Chandler and Ehanniwin Red Bird, Cassius Morrison, Wiyaka & Echanni Ashley, Mateo Bad Hand, Canku Marshall and Johnna Red Bird. Gracie Cross and Maliah Good Voice Elk, Kallaia “Baby Moon”. Brother Emmett Martin Jr. And sisters Alona Martin, Deborah (Wayne) Two Hearts, Marcella (Talbert) Cutt, and Martha Martin (Calvin Red Elk). Hunka brothers, Pat Bad Hand Sr and Glendon “Mickey” Rush. Hunka daughters Angeline Cheek and Rose Yellow Horse. Hunka sons, Ron Crossdog and Tootie Warchild Begay. She was known by many as “Grandma Benny Looks Twice” on the powwow trail mainly by the Blue Thunders, Uses Arrows, Kiukapis, White Buffaloes, and many other powwow children. She had numerous nieces and nephews. She had ones who she babied and helped raise. Missy Martin, Greg and Darrell Two Hearts, Leslie Ortley and Nate Martin. She was raising two of her great grandsons Talon Red Bird and Cassius Morrison at the time of her passing. She loved all her grands and great grands and would do whatever she could for them.
Preceded in death by her grandparents, John & Fanny Standing Cloud, her parents Emmett and Myrtle Martin, her son John Martin Standing Cloud. Granddaughter Cassandra LeDeaux and grandson Baby Chip LeDeaux. Nieces Lindsey Ortley and Sarah Martin. Nephews Jeremy Two Hearts and Jason and Matthew Martin.
