PIERRE, SD – Margaret “Peggy” Ellen Stout, 71, joined her heavenly Father on January 21, 2025. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 29, at the First United Methodist Church, 117 Central Avenue, Pierre, South Dakota. Friends and family are invited to attend to honor a woman who truly made the world a better place. Refreshments will be served at the church immediately following the service. For those unable to attend the service it will be live streamed through a link on Isburg Funeral Chapels website.
Peggy was born on March 17, 1953, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Alvin (Timer) and Thelma (Sutton) Allison. She married her college sweetheart, Steve Stout, on February 4, 1973. Peg and Steve were blessed with three children: Chris, Allison, and Emily.
Guided by her unwavering faith, Peggy dedicated her life to serving her family, friends, and community with a full heart and abundant joy. Peggy had a gift for making everyone she met feel valued and loved. Her warm smile and constant thoughtfulness brought comfort and joy to everyone around her. From volunteering with Kids Voting to leading bible study groups. From hosting ‘Peggy Day’ for her tiniest of friends to organizing city-wide events. From medical recruitment dinners to PEO functions, she could always be counted on. Not a day would go by without her offering a helping hand, a prayer, a wise word, an ear, or a shoulder. She truly embodied the spirit of Jesus in all that she did.
Peg had a vision to create a special place in town where stories came to life, friendships flourished, and lessons were learned. From this vision came her fourth child. As co-owner of Prairie Pages Bookstore, the store became more than a business; it was a community favorite. People came from near and far to be greeted with open arms, a warm smile, and an endless list of recommendations – always perfectly curated to each individual customer.
Peggy’s life was a true testament to the power of faith, love, and community. Her legacy of compassion, service, and unconditional love will continue to inspire us all, and her spirit will live on in everyone she touched.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 51 years, Steve; their three children, Chris Stout, Allison (Jon England) Stout, and Emily (Chris) Kelley; mother Thelma Allison; grandchildren Austin Radar, Easton Stout, Alexander England, and Ian, Olivia and Alvin Kelley; sisters Lorrie (Craig) Struthers and Brenda (Bob) Murphy; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Allison, and grandparents, John and Ellen Allison and John and Mildred Sutton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Peggy’s honor may be made to the Oahe Presbyterian Church, 2115 E. Capitol Avenue, Pierre, SD, 57501, or directed to the family for donations to be decided on at a later date.
