Marilyn Circle Eagle “Nuŋpa Zuya I Wiŋ”, 72, of Red Scaffold/Eagle Butte, started her journey to the spirit world, Monday, January 24, 2022, at Monument Health, Rapid City.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MST, Friday, February 4, 2022, at Cheyenne Eagle Butte Auditorium, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in Cherry Creek UCC Cemetery. A wake service will be held 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the auditorium with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.

Marilyn was born at Cheyenne Agency, SD, on September 5, 1949, to Bevin Sr. and Cecelia (Cook) Circle Eagle. She grew up in Red Scaffold, attending grade school in Red Scaffold, high school at Cheyenne Eagle Butte, and graduating from Boston, Massachusetts. Marilyn continued her education beginning at Yankton College, Black Hills State College, Spearfish, SD, Sitanka College, Eagle Butte (Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education) Merritt College, Oakland, California, Sinte Gleska University, Rosebud, SD (Masters of Education/Educational Administration/P-8 Elementary Principal), Lakȟotá-Dakȟóta Diploma from Sitting Bull College, Fort Yates ND.

Marilyn was a Sundancer/Pipe carrier, ran sweats for women, dream interpreter, and was a presenter for Lakota Language/Culture. Her favorite past time was sewing. Throughout the years, she worked as Traditional Cultural Leader, Cheyenne Eagle Butte, Eagle Butte, SD, Bilingual Curriculum Developer, School, EB, SD, Bilingual Aide, Pierre Indian Learning Center, Pierre SD, Housekeeper-live-In-Heritage Home, Stockton, California Counselor Aide, Native American Alcohol Program, Oakland, California Teaching Assistant, Takini School, Community Youth Counselor, CRST Alcohol Program, Research Specialist, CRST NAGPRA Grant, EB, Coordinator, CRST Rural Domestic Program, Voc-Rehab Counselor, EB, Curriculum Coordinator, CRST Title I, She will be remembered as being a beautiful caring person, having compassion for people, animals, and her Lakota Language & Culture.

Marilyn is survived by her siblings: Peggy Knife, Beverly (Delmar) Clown, Helene (Adrian) Martinez, Bevin Jr. (Inez) Circle Eagle, Willie Circle Eagle, Joy Circle Eagle, Velma Kills Back, and Lillian White Wolf; hunka siblings: Moses High Elk and Dixie LeCompte; hunka daughter: Carla Lawrence; Sonny Boy Conroy Clown; hunka sons: Dion Brown and Michael Pourier; nephews: Delmar Jr., Brandon, Fain, Delaine, RJ, Huey, Eldon, Lamar, Bevin, Fabian, and Marlo; nieces: Dardi, Mary, Rolynn, Desiree, Lynette, Emily, Felica, Kimberly, Crissy, Carstin, Katee, Kenzie, Keilyn, Krystan, Krystal, and Ali’ah; grandchildren: Matthew, Bryanna, Lauryn, Tyree, Peyton, Braxton, Kayliah, Leighton, Saigen, Damien (Sun), Wayanka, Masani, Robert, Joseph, Hayzen, Nancy, Chloe, Kendall, Zoey, Claire, Greta, Noah, Danny, Kaven, and Izzy, Brextyn, Kade, Kyle, Elora, Colin, T.J., Smoky, Journey, and Jacob.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Bevin Sr. and Cecelia; brother: Robert ‘Bobby Joe’; nephews: Randon and Roland Jr; grandson: Jerimiah; grandparents: William and Rose Circle Eagle and Wallace and Louise Cook; and many extended relatives who were there to welcome her home.
