EAGLE BUTTE, SD – Mark High Elk, 61, of Eagle Butte, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Cheyenne River Health Center, Eagle Butte.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MDT, Thursday, June 13, 2024, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in Emmanuel Episcopal Cemetery, White Horse. A wake service will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at the church with a procession from the 4-Mile at 4:00 p.m.
Mark lived in Rapid City for many years, and while living there, he worked for a construction business building and constructing bridges all over South Dakota. He attended college at Western Dakota Tech. He was a Sundancer, and he danced for five years on different reservations.
Mark and Clarice were married through the pipe ceremony.
His love for his mother was unmatched. He would check on her, as he often worried about her. He eventually moved home to help take care of her. He was a very quiet person but very caring in his own way. He loved all of his family, children, brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Mark enjoyed his crossword puzzles and television shows, as well as sharing a coldie with his “Kolas”.
Mark is survived by his mother, Margie Blue Coat; two sons: Roderick Wade High Elk and Myron Wade; siblings: Marvin High Elk Jr., Candice High Elk, Merle High Elk, Samuel High Elk; and aunts: Mona Fischer, Goldie Stroup, Doris Red Bird, and Elvira High Elk.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin L. High Elk Sr.; (LaLa) Isaac High Elk, (Unci) Adelia (Thin Elk) High Elk, (LaLa) Robert Blue Coat Sr., (Enci) Lillian (Horse With Horn) Blue Coat; brother, Jamie Lewis Clown; and uncles: Moses High Elk, Fred High Elk, Lavern High Elk, Roderick High Elk, Alvin High Elk, and Dawayne Standing Bear.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Mark’s arrangements.
