Funeral services for Marlene A. McGregor, 83, of Chamberlain, SD will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 27, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain, SD. Visitation will begin Sunday, June 26 at 5:00 p.m. at St. James Community Center with a scripture/rosary service at 7:00 p.m., at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain.
Marlene Anne Maresh was born May 16, 1939 to Emanuel and Elsie (Kott) Maresh. She grew up on a farm southwest of Kimball in Highland Township. She attended Gullikson Country School near Kimball and Kimball Public School where she graduated from Kimball High School in 1957. After high school, Marlene attended Springfield Business School in Springfield, SD. Later Marlene went back to college to the National School of Business in Sioux City, IA and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion earning her degree at the age of 58.
On November 12, 1960, Marlene was united in marriage to Patrick Leo McGregor. Patrick and Marlene lived in the basement of the house that Marlene’s father and Patrick built. Marlene and Patrick welcomed the arrival of their son Ken later followed by daughter Rhonda and upon the arrival of their second daughter Martese, it became a full house so the family moved to Chamberlain.
Marlene worked in the business office at Community Bailey Hospital and took a little time off to raise the kids before beginning her employment with Northwest Energy formerly NWPS. She retired in 2015 after 40 years of service.
Marlene enjoyed sewing, gardening, arts and crafts, genealogy, and writing the family tree. She enjoyed playing cards with friends. Marlene and Patrick loved taking bus trips to Deadwood, SD, Branson, MO, and other touring trips.
She was a member of the Brule County Historical Society, and of the Tractor Museum in Kimball. She was an avid bowler achieving many awards, one of which was the induction into the Chamberlain Bowling Hall of Fame in 2016.
Marlene passed away on June 22, 2022 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain the age of 83 years. Gratefully sharing her life are her husband of 61 years Patrick of Chamberlain; son Ken of Chamberlain; daughters Rhonda of Kimball and Martese of Sioux Falls; her brother Robert Lee (Judy) Maresh; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents Emanuel and Elsie Maresh, her brothers Harold Emanuel Maresh, Milford James (June) Maresh; and a sister Doris Darlene (Bob) Breiholz.
