
PIERRE, SD – Mary Pease, 76, of Pierre, SD, died on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. A celebration of Mary’s life will take place at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at River Center Church in Pierre. Family and friends are invited to start gathering at 1:30pm for refreshments to enjoy during the informal Celebration of Life.
Mary Susanne was born on July 6, 1949 to Charles and Ardeth (Vrooman) Serbousek. She was the oldest of 7 children. She attended a rural school and graduated from Agar High School. She married Gilbert “Chip” Campbell in 1967 and they lived on a farm east of Agar. They adopted 2 children. In 1976 they moved to Pierre and were joined by 4 miracle children. She began working in 1977 and worked as a bookkeeper and waitress until 1990. In 1987 she married Richard Pease and the family welcomed a 5th son and later adopted an adult daughter. In 1990 she started a child care business. She and her daughter continued the business until her death. She also continued bookkeeping for the King’s Inn until 1998 when the business was sold.
Mary Sue is survived by her husband Richard, her children: Richard (Christa) Campbell of Pierre, Brett Campbell of Box Elder, SD, Brandon (fiancé Becky) Campbell of Belle Fourche, SD, Kristin (Jason) Vermundson of Pierre, Steve Campbell of Pierre, and Phillip (Haelly) Pease of Pierre, 26 grandchildren, 3 of which she and Richard are raising, and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Lawrence (Tammy) Serbousek of Denver; Bob (Margie) Serbousek of Gastonia, NC; Janette (Keith) Byer of Pierre; Colleen (Craig) Sandal of Flower Mound, TX and brother-in-law John Faz of Lincoln, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Jessa Goodbird, her sister Pam Faz and her brother Chuck Serbousek.
