Mashawn Benoist Uses Many, 52, of Eagle Butte, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021, at St. Alexius Health, Bismarck, ND.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MST, Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in the Eagle Butte Cemetery, Eagle Butte SD. A wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2021, at the church with a procession from the 4-mile at 3:00 p.m.
Mashawn Rae (Benoist) Uses Many was born on March 1, 1969 in Eagle Butte, SD to Richard Benoist, Sr. and Ramona (Jewett) McLane. Her life’s journey ended on December 18, 2021 at St. Alexis hospital in Bismarck, ND.
Mashawn was raised in Rapid City, SD, where she attended school and later went to the Job Corps in Clearfield, UT. She returned to Rapid City and worked at the Ellsworth Air Force Base, where she met Eddie Gonzalez, the father of her son, John, who was raised and later adopted by his grandparents, William and Ramona McLane. John always looked out for his mom, making sure she was taken care of.
Mashawn moved to Utah to live with her sister, Marie, until she found a job and her own place to live. Her second child, Leticia Rose, was born, and she returned to Eagle Butte where she met and married Melvin Bagola, Jr. To this union three sons were born, Briar Wayne, Ramon Louis, and Melvin III. She worked at Lakota Thrifty Mart from 1995 – 2005.
In 2007 she met her current husband, Jules Uses Many. Employment took them to various places, before settling in Eagle Butte where she remained until her passing.
Mashawn was known for her famous potato salad, her infectious laugh and sense of humor. She was always willing to lend a helping hand no matter what the occasion, she was a joy to have around. She loved her family dearly, especially her children and grandchildren. She will be forever missed and loved by her whole family.
Mashawn is survived by her husband, Jules Uses Many; mother, Ramona McLane; five children: John (Shelby) McLane, Leticia (Rueben) Johnson, Briar, Ramon, and Melvin III; six grandchildren: Lexi Jade, Haydus Blayzin, Samuel John, Jr., Owen Carter, Haylos Blayz, and Sidney Ray.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Benoist, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Sidney Benoist and Lena Low Dog; maternal grandparents, Stanley Jewett and Annabell Morgan; sister, Willie (McLane) Biros; and a grandson, Haylen James.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Mashawn’s arrangements.
