Funeral services for Meinrad Errol Medicine Jr. age 59 of Mobridge will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Wakpala Community Center in Wakpala under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Errol passed away Monday January 11, 2021 at his home in Mobridge.
Errol Medicine Jr., TaSunka HinTo “Roan Horse” was born at the Old Cheyenne Agency, South Dakota on March 20th, 1961. He was the Oldest son of Errol Medicine Sr. and Celeste Ducheneaux.
Errol went to Flandreau Indian School then after graduating he enlisted in the Marines. Through his Marine years he became a World Champion Fancy Dancer in the 80’s and went to Disney World. He worked at the Jenny O’ Turkey Plant and Keebler Cookie Factory in Minnesota.
He took residence in Wakpala, S.D. where he created fancy dance Pow-wow outfits, jewelry making, drum making, he was a man of art. He was a sponsor of meals for the Pow-Wow’s. Children were very important to him, making sure that they knew their traditions, and feeding the children
Errol took pride about his family, he would always tell his family members he loved them. He loved the community of Wakpala, enjoyed talking to friends and family about the old ways. Will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was in the movie Thunderheart in a Pow-Wow Scene, help make ceremonial props for Dances with Wolves. Spend a lot of time being an activist for the indigenous causes.
Survived by: his wife; Rochelle Medicine, son; Clayton “Waste” Medicine, brothers and sister, Kolette “Kolee” Medicine, Wade Medicine, Erik Medicine, Wilma Medicine.
