Melvin D. Carroll, 78, of Harrold, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Avantara in Pierre.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Harrold Auditorium in Harrold with Pastor Kippy Udehn officiating. Burial followed at the Medicine Hill Cemetery, Harrold.
Melvin was born October 2, 1942 in Pierre, South Dakota to Dan and Alvina (Hoffman) Carroll. He attended school in Harrold, graduating in 1961. In August 1965, he married Katherine Zilverberg. Together they had three sons: Daniel, Duaine, and Donald. Melvin farmed, ranched, and had dairy cattle his entire life along with doing custom silage cutting.
In his free time, Melvin loved to fish especially catfish, hunting pheasants, being with his cattle and horses, and his dog, Scottie. He served on the Harrold Township Board. In 2010, he wintered in Texas for a couple months with friends. He enjoyed the weather and his time there.
He is survived by his three sons: son, Duaine T. (Shelley) Carroll of Fort Pierre and children: Julian (Falon), Juliet, Ramsey (Kylie), Jade (Adam), Romee, Rider (Talyn), Zayden, Brayson, and Karsyn; son, Daniel M. (Lana) Carroll of Harrold and children: Cody (Britt) and family, and Stephan (Darian) and family; and son, Donald D. Carroll of Harrold; sister, Gladys Buechler of Pierre; sister-in-law, Marlene Carroll of Harrold; beloved dog, Scottie; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Dan and Alvina Carroll; brother, Tom Carroll; stepfather, Roy Kathner; brother-in-law, Delmer Buechler; and ex-wife, Katherine Zilverberg Buckner.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Melvin’s arrangements.
