GETTYSBURG, SD – Michael Kula, 70, of rural Gettysburg, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at his home.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gettysburg, with Fr. Joe Holzhauser presiding. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Michael C. Kula was born May 17, 1954, at the Gettysburg Memorial Hospital to Calvin and Inez (Hall) Kula. He grew up on the family farm, attending Cattron school through 8th grade and graduating from Gettysburg High School in 1973. He studied auto mechanics at Lake Area Tech. in Watertown. While in Watertown he met his wife, Diane Schaefer.
Mike and Diane were married June 30, 1976. To this union two daughters were born: Erin and Sara. They were blessed with three grandchildren who he loved dearly and enjoyed doing things with.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trips with family and friends. He was a master at designing and building creative implements.
Mike’s life will forever be cherished by his wife; daughters: Erin (Kelly) Shelton and Sara (Eric) Van Roekel; grandchildren: Ava Shelton, Levi Shelton and Bria Van Roekel; brother, Thomas (Kathy) Kula; sisters: Jane (Ladia) Jakubec, Joan (Scott) Wagner, and Mary (John) Minnis; aunt, Janice Schoumaker; uncle, Leo (Judy) Hall; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph in infancy; grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
