Michael Don Fanger was born March 28, 1958 to Joe & Shirley (Joachim) Fanger. From a young age Mike was a character. He always had a good sense of humor and liked to joke and tease. He was “a ham” as a youngster. He grew up on the farm north of Blunt and then east of Blunt when his family moved in 1960 to the current farmstead. As a kid he helped with chores and farming. Milking cows was a family affair and he got to milk the biggest brown one! He may have taken things too far though when his mother looked out the window to see him “being a cow” and eating the grass! Mike graduated from Sully Buttes High School in 1976 and continued to work on the family farm and ranch.
Mike was a generous person with a sensitive heart. His Christian faith was strong as he grew up in Trinity Lutheran Church. He served as President and Vice President of the congregation and was an elder in the church for many years. In 1987 he attended Dale Carnegie and received a certificate for most improved. He was rightfully proud of himself for this accomplishment.
He enjoyed going on family trips, be it to the Black Hills or farther away to Mexico or a tropical island. Mike was very thoughtful – sending cards and buying gifts he thought people would like. He was very intuitive in that area. Mike liked being around people, but truly enjoyed one on one the best. Mike loved harvest season and riding in the combines. He enjoyed looking at fields with “the guys” and talking about farming. He loved to joke around and was always betting family members a hundred dollars only to draw his hand back to say we were too slow! Mike will be missed by so many.
Mike is survived by his father Joe, brothers Dan (Alice) and Ken, sister Crystal (Kent), nieces Valerie (Duane), Nikki (Tyler), Victoria, Venessa (Shane) and Veronica, nephews Jacob (Shantel) and Rhys, great nieces Sydney, Isabella, and Vera Jo, great nephew Lucas and many special cousins. He was preceded in death by his mom Shirley, nephew Jonathon, nephew Matthew, Grandparents George and Josephine and Alvin and Lillian.
