HARROLD, SD – Micheal Washechek, 38, of Harrold, passed away from a tragic vehicle accident on Sunday, September 1, 2024, near Fort Thompson.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Harrold School Gym, with Brita Bergeson officiating. Burial will follow at the Highmore Cemetery.
Micheal (Mikey) Washechek was born on March 27th, 1986, at an even 5 lbs., to Michael & Iris (Cables) Washechek. Mikey was born and raised in Huron, SD, where he attended school and graduated in May 2004 as a Huron Tiger. After graduation, Mikey moved to Highmore with his wife of 12 years, Kimberly (Cermak) Brehe. Three amazing children were born from this union: Gary, Hayden, and Jenna.
While growing up, Mikey loved fishing every weekend with his mom and dad at the 3rd Street Dam in Huron. During those years, Mikey would spend time with his sister, Barbara, and Grandpa Howard and Grandma Ruby Cables, down in Texas fishing in the pond. Another fond memory that Mikey had was making memories and spending time with his grandma Ruth in Wessington Springs and going to the park and swimming pool with his aunt, Lisa, and uncle, Scotty. Aside from spending time with family, Mikey would enjoy going to the skating rink, playing video games, and cruising Huron’s streets on either his bike or with a friend. Mikey loved to nerd out playing video games or hanging out at the arcade.
Mikey was a hard worker and loved a good challenge. While living in Highmore, he worked at Hoffman Honey, Highmore’s local butcher shop, Global Harvest of Harrold, and then started his career as a grain elevator operator for 19 years. Mikey was a volunteer firefighter at Harrold Fire Department for 10 years.
Mikey was very much involved in the dart community. Whether it was Co-ed Pink ladies’ leagues, cricket or 501, if there was a tournament, he tried his hardest to attend. He also supported his kids in Junior Darts. Mikey loved his kids and family – blood did not matter to him; he never met a stranger. Mikey would never pass up on a good concert. His music selection covered a wide array of genres.
Mikey is survived by his children: Gary, Hayden, and Jenna; his mother, Iris (Cables) Washechek; and sister, Barbara (Andy) Dotson, and their children Gavin and Brodie; the mother of his children, Kimberly (Micky) Brehe; Mikey’s special friend, Axell (Buggy) Brehe; grandma Ruth Washechek; uncles: Rick Washechek, Scott Washechek, Royse Washechek, and Richard Washechek; aunt, Lisa and her kids: Maddie, Macy, Mia, Piper, and Oliver; aunt, Tiffany Washechek and her kids Tessa, Iva, and John Paul; and lots of extended family and tons of friends and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by sister, Mary Lynn Willis; father, Michael James Washechek; maternal grandparents, Howard and Ruby Cables; nephew, Hayden Joe Schmautz (fellow firefighter), paternal grandpa, Richard Keith Washechek; and paternal uncle, Todd Washechek.
