PIERRE, SD – Mildred Marie “Milme” Jibben, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, SD. Graveside service will be 1:00pm on Monday, January 5, 2026 at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre, SD. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Mildred Marie Osbeck was born on September 10, 1934, in Watertown, SD to Simon and Ethel (Skinner) Osbeck. Her journey through 91 years of life was one marked by dedication to family, passion for education, and a generous spirit that left an indelible impact on all who knew her.
Milme, as she was affectionately known, graduated high school in her hometown of Watertown. Her desire to contribute to her community led her to obtain a teacher’s certificate from Northern State College. It wasn’t long before she met and married Kenneth “Spike” Jibben, on July 13, 1954, in a ceremony in Watertown that set in motion a partnership of 55 beautiful years.
After starting her career as a teacher, Mildred embraced motherhood, lovingly raising their five children: Gwen Marie (David) Reker, Gail Lynn (Tom) Schulte, Lane Bryan (Amy) Jibben, the late Susan Kay Jibben, and the late Reid Allen Jibben.
Milme was a humble woman. She preferred that attention and accolades be directed towards others rather than herself. She loved her family and children of all ages. Her love of children was apparent throughout her life. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; all who tell stories of affection. Milme’s love for children extended beyond her own family as she continued to shape young minds as a school secretary, until her retirement.
Milme lived in Lake Preston, SD, Murdo, SD, and primarily in Pierre, SD before moving to Sioux Falls in the more recent years. She was skilled in sewing, needlecraft, and crochet and stayed involved in a local ladies craft group. A devoted Christian, she was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, where she found fellowship and spiritual nourishment. Milme was a gracious hostess, always willing to provide a place to stay for family and friends.
Milme is survived by three children, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Her sisters Betty Osbeck Carr and Judy Osbeck Johnson preceded her in death, alongside her beloved husband Kenneth.
Memorials are requested to Countryside Hospice Support & Memory Center or Pierre First United Methodist Church.
