Myra Nadine Sievers, 100, of Gettysburg, SD, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Gettysburg Cemetery with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating.
Nadine was born on September 15, 1923, in Gettysburg, to James Leroy and Vesta (Chiles) Wickersham. They lived in the country, 13 miles northwest of Gettysburg. She graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1940. Nadine worked at the Cheyenne River Agency near Gettysburg and later lived and worked in California during the war.
Nadine met Darrell Sievers in Brentford, SD and they were joined in marriage on September 11, 1947. They lived and farmed near Brentford, SD where they raised six children: Sheral, Starla, Gayle, Gregory, Calvin, and Monte. Nadine was a life-time member of The Brentford American Legion Auxiliary and the Gettysburg Winston Toomey Post #8530 VFW Auxiliary. She was active in the community, elected and served on the Brentford School Board.
In 1963, she returned to Gettysburg with her children. She was employed at the Gettysburg Memorial Hospital and helped at the Windsor Hotel when needed. Nadine later moved to Arizona where she owned and operated a motel in Tempe, Arizona. Upon retirement, she lived in Palmyra, Wisconsin, and for several years she lived in Rapid City, SD, helping at her son’s store and volunteering at the Senior Center. In 2017, she returned to Gettysburg where she remained until her death.
Nadine was a hard worker, serious but also willing to be adventurous, and it was fun to make her laugh! She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Nadine is survived by her children: Sheral (Ray) Morrill of Buckeye, AZ, Starla Fitzjarrell of Broomfield, CO, Gayle (Ron) Landwehr of Renville, MN, Calvin Sievers of Rapid City, SD, Monte (LeAnn) Sievers of Gettysburg, SD, and daughter-in-law Arlene Sievers of Helenville, WI; seventeen grandchildren: Geri (Scott) Okamoto, Brett (Angie) Gunsalus, Marshal (Lisa) Norman, Kendra (Dan) Stewart, Mike (Ashley) Schneider, Megan (John) Beier, Jordan Sievers (Marlo), Luke (Megan) Sievers, Logan Sievers, Jada (Joe) Breuer, Sasha Campbell, Amanda (Carson) Hogan, Shane Sievers, Callie (Craig) Lessard, Chelsea (Jonathan) Heckel, Chandra Sievers, and Chase (Gena) Sievers; nineteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Vesta Wickersham; brothers, Chiles “Buck” and James “Gene” Wickersham; sisters, Marjorie Lane and Jacqueline Jarrett; son, Greg Sievers; daughter-in-law, Cindy Sievers; son-in-law, James Fitzjarrell; and grandsons: Craig Norman, Sean Comeau, and George Arthur Sievers.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Nadine’s arrangements.
