Nancy (White) Kindel, 79, of Selby, SD, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, surrounded by her beloved husband and children.
Born on December 4, 1945, in Mobridge, SD, Nancy was the daughter of Hartson and Irene (Kluckman) White. She grew up in Selby, where she graduated from Selby School before attending Augustana College. In 1966, Nancy returned to her hometown and married Paul Stroh, with whom she raised four children: Greg, Bryan, Heather, and Shawn.
Nancy was deeply devoted to her family and her community. She was the best mom, always putting everyone else first and finding joy in supporting her children and grandchildren in every aspect of their lives. Her warmth and selflessness touched all who knew her.
Nancy’s musical talents brought joy to many as she taught piano lessons for over 20 years and served as the organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a founding member and an active participant in the Selby Fitness Center, where she inspired others with her energy and commitment.
Nancy was a dedicated community member, actively involved with the Lionettes and the Ladies Auxiliary, where she also served as treasurer. She worked tirelessly at the Selby Good Samaritan Center for 36 years, where her kindness and care touched the lives of many.
Nancy had a sense of humor that her family cherished. Known for always being cold, she famously kept the car heater on high, much to the dismay of anyone riding with her!
On October 4, 2008, Nancy married Marvin Kindel, and together they shared many wonderful years filled with motorcycle rides and family trips to Arizona and the Black Hills. Nancy loved walking until her health no longer allowed and treasured her close friendships within the community.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Hartson and Irene White. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service, having shared her life with her husband Marvin, her children Greg (Rhonda) Stroh of Redfield, Bryan Stroh of Rapid City, Heather (Jeremy) Jackson of Rapid City, and Shawn (Sarah Johnson) of Aberdeen; her stepchildren Trisha (Dan) Schuver of Sioux Falls, Casey (Suanne) Kindel of Aurora, CO, and Tara (Stacey) Kindel of Sarnia, ON; and her grandchildren Haley, Hunter, Holden, Tatum, Peyton, Hudson, Benett, Calvin, Harrison, and Wild. She is also survived by her brothers Bob (Lani) White of Rapid City and Tom (Renee) White of Sioux Falls.
Nancy’s warmth, humor, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and community will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
