FT. PIERRE, SD – Nancy Monson, 80, of Fort Pierre, SD, died on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Avantara in Pierre. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre. A luncheon with follow at the Community & Youth Involved Quentin Sutley Senior Center in Fort Pierre.

Nancy was born on December 9, 1945 to William “Bill” and Ann (Rubin) Volmer in Mitchell, SD. She grew up in Emery and Draper, SD, and graduated from high school Draper High School. She married Rodney Allen Monson on August 24, 1970 at the Catholic Church in Fort Pierre, SD. They had three children: Terry, Julie and Josh.

Nancy worked as a housekeeper and once she retired her favorite job began. Nancy was blessed to take care of all of her grandchildren while their parents worked. She loved to dance and especially loved spending time with family.

Nancy is survived by her children: Terry (Sharon) Monson, Julie (Thad) Smith and Josh Monson, grandchildren: Essence Monson, Kylee Smith, Julian Monson, Cooper Smith, and Sasha Monson, great grandchildren: Sebastian “Bash,” Beckette, Avery, Bristol and Ivory. She is also survived by siblings: Bob (Wardean) Volmer, Dave (Pam) Volmer, Mary Ellen Weber, Betty Newton, Shirley Finkbeiner, and Linda (Del) Templeton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rodney, and her grandson Hayden Monson
