Funeral services for Nina (Ducheneaux) Hanson, 62, of Mobridge will be at 11 AM, Friday, June 28, 2024, at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge. Burial will be at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Promise under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. The visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Nina Marie Ducheneaux Hanson gained her angel wings on June 18, 2024, at The Mobridge Regional Hospital after her battle with cancer.

Nina was born September 20, 1961, to Maynard James Ducheneaux and Sharon Bollinger Ducheneaux. She attended 4th grade – 8th grade in Trail City and attended Timber Lake High School and graduated in 1979. She then attended South Dakota State College of Nursing in 1981.

Nina and Kim Seidel packed their bags and were moving to Corpus Christie, Texas and on the way there, they stopped in Valentine, Nebraska where she met Tony Hanson. She decided to stay in Valentine. Nina worked at the Taco Stop. Tony and Nina were married in 1986. They were married for 17 years. During this marriage, they adopted three beautiful children: Alex Hanson, Michael Hanson and Kerian Hanson. Nina worked at the Farm Service Agency for 15 years. She left that job in 2014 and moved back to Mobridge. During this time, she worked at Great Plains Restaurant, Leonard Studio, Mobridge Sale Barn, PaylessFoods, KTs Fireside, Home Health Services and a dietary Cook at the Mobridge Senior Citizen’s Center. Nina worked until she could no longer, she always had to keep busy. Nina had a love for puzzles, reading books, playing her computer games, and watching her talk shows and court shows. Nina’s favorite snack was Diet Coke and FunYuns which she enjoyed until the very end. Nina was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in April 2024. She is loved and will be missed by her family and friends.

Nina is preceded in death by her father, Maynard James Ducheneaux, mother, Sharon Bollinger Ducheneaux, sister Deanna Ducheneaux and a great niece, Madison Gill.

Nina is survived by her beloved children; Alex Hanson of Mobridge, SD, Kerian Hanson (Joe Lance) of Valentine, NE, Michael Hanson of Valentine, NE, her grandchildren, Gabriel Hanson, Giselle Hanson, Samuel Lance, Sequioa Lance, and Seneca Lance, her sister Shirley Stayton of Florence, SD, brother Ronnie Ducheneaux of Mobridge, niece, Heather Caplinn of Mobridge, niece Jessica Powers (Josh Powers) of Watertown, SD, Joshua Stayton (Stacy) of Texas, niece Shantel Ducheneaux of Mobridge, niece Cheyenne Ducheneaux (Josh Prasek) of Mobridge, nephew, Bodey Ducheneaux (Nicolette Longbrake) of Mobridge, sister-in-law Julie Mosset (Kris Mosset) of Mobridge, great nephew, Mattaius Caplinn of Mobridge, great nephew, Shooter Stayton of Texas, great niece, Baylee Elsinger of Watertown and great niece, Eleanore Prasek of Mobridge, great niece Fallon Stayton of Texas, and her cat, Nickie. She is also survived by special friends, Kelly, Amanda, Gavin, Tatum and Grayson Silbernagel, Darla Simon and Nancy Hepper. She has a lot of bonus children from her children’s friends who also called her “mom”.
