Nona High Bear, 57, of Eagle Butte, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, the result of a house
fire in Eagle Butte, SD.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. MDT, Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the CRST Bingo Hall,
Eagle Butte. Burial will follow in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cemetery, Cherry Creek. A wake
service will be 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the hall with a procession from the 4-
mile at 4:00 p.m.
Nona Kay High Bear was born March 23, 1967, in Eagle Butte, SD to Richard Sr. and Sylvia
(Blue Arm) High Bear.
Nona met Jack Red Bear and had seven children: Jacquelyn, Desiree, Crystal, Alicia, Larae, and
Kaylen Red Bear and one son, Jarrett High Bear. She also had two more daughters, Lanae and
Lisa. She later met Travis Little Star and had Tyler, Tyanna, and Travis Jr.
Nona was a homemaker all her life. She enjoyed spending time with all her friends and the
homeless along with her dog, Zoey, whom she really loved.
Nona is survived by her daughters: Jacquelyn and Desiree Red Bear, Eagle Butte, Crystal Red
Bear, Watertown, Alicia Red Bear, Arlington, TX, LaRae Baumgarten, Lemmon, Kaylen Barker,
North Carolina, Tyanna Little Star, Eagle Butte, Lisa Antoine, Rosebud, and Lanae Stuart,
Minot, ND; sons: Jarrett High Bear, Pierre, and Tyler Little Star and Travis Little Star Jr. both of
Eagle Butte; numerous grandchildren: siblings: Pauline, Patricia, Daniel, Fawn, Favon, Jolene,
Audy, and Waylon High Bear, all of Eagle Butte, Dustin Black Moon, Oregon, Jerry Eagleman,
Sioux Falls, and Elizabeth and Shane Oakie, Red Scaffold.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Richard Sr. and Sylvia High Bear; brothers: Richard
Jr. and Woodrow High Bear; sister, Nicole High Bear; and many other loved ones too numerous
to name.
