PIERRE, SD – Patricia “Pat” Sutton,83, of Pierre passed away on Wednesday, April 2nd at Avera Maryhouse in Pierre. A memorial service will be held at a later date, with inurnment at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Pat was born on January 13, 1942, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Stanley and Irene (Thompson) Austad, where she grew up and graduated from Washington High School. After graduating, she moved to Akron, Iowa, and then to Yankton, South Dakota, where she worked at the hospital. Eventually, Pat settled in Pierre with her husband Harold where she worked as a cashier for many stores and always greeted her customers with kindness.

Pat enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles sewing, knitting, and reading a good book.

Pat leaves behind a loving family, including her brothers Tommy (Carmen) Austad, Jerry Austad, her sisters Joy Chase and Jennie (John) Bucholz, sister-in-law Linda Austad and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Irene Austad, step-dad Virgil Hansler, her husband, Harold Sutton, brothers Larry and Robert, sister-in-law Mary Austad, brother-in-law Jim Chase, niece Roberta Austad Wessels, nephew James Austad, and great-nieces Amanda and Sandy Chase.
