Patric Charles White Mountain ‘Mahto Akicita Hanska’ began his life journey on May 11, 1980, at the Hennepin County Hospital in Minneapolis Mn to Jennifer Joy St. John of Sisseton/Wahpeton Dakotah and Robert Lee White Mountain Sr. Standing Rock. He attended school in Mobridge, SD, Ft. Yates, ND, Little Eagle Day School and Rapid City, SD
He lived in Minneapolis, Mn for a short time then he and his family moved to the Sisseton/Wahpeton Reservation then on to the Standing Rock Reservation. In 1981, Patric was the youngest of 25 people who camped and defended the Sacred Black Hills against an` 8.5-billion-dollar Uranium Mining Corp. which resulted in a victory for the Oceti Sakowin and Mother Earth. This is where he earned the name of Mahto Akicita Hanska.
During Patric ‘Mahto Akicita Hanska’s’ journey here on Mother Earth he met Tillie One Feather and to this relationship came Lakota Jordan ‘Koti’ One Feather. Then he met Charlotte Cook Rimeriz and together they were blessed with Kylee Cook. He met Amy Moore and with this union they were blessed with the birth of Wiyaka White Mountain. Then he met Kari Hoover, and this relationship was honored with Grace Joy White Mountain and his only son Patric White Mountain Jr. He loved his children very much and wished and dreamed they could all be together.
Patric ‘Mahto Akicita Hanska’ was an old Warrior soul who blessed us with 42 beautiful years and then was needed and called back home with the Spirit family. In his short time here, he excelled in academics and athletics and loved to watch sports and liked the Raiders and Duke. Patric respected the ways of the Hunkpapa/Dakota people and expressed his love to preserve the heritage of his people. He enjoyed blasting music from all different genres, but his greatest love was for Powwow music. You would often find Patric creating art from bone, wood, and beadwork. He was one of the best Lakota Brain-tanners we had.
He loved to travel and with his family, he made many trips to the east coast and west coast and made many friends along the way. He was a member of the Hunkpapa Cante Tinza Hancokan Okolakiciye or the Midnight Strong Heart Warrior Society and helped guard the 2000 Takeover of the Oglala Sioux Tribal Red Cloud building until it became the first Indigenous Embassy. He was also made a member of the Tokala Okolakiciye or Tokala Warrior Society by headsman Wallace Little. Defended the Black Hills and its peoples on many occasions. Then he came back to Standing Rock to help the people and Mother Earth.
In 2009 he was instrumental in the building and planting of the Medicine Wheel Living Park in Bear Soldier South. A 65-acre park that will eventually be filled with food and medicines for the people. In 2018 and 2019 he was a member of the team that created the summer Solstice celebrations in the park. He also helped with other projects in the park because he loved his family, friends and all people and wanted to do things that would help our people have a healthy food source and become self-sustainable and prosper.
