PIERRE, SD – Paul Thomas Bryrum, a man of kindness and generosity, left this world on March 15, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on November 26, 1950, in Tyndall, South Dakota, Paul’s early years were spent in the heart of the Midwest. His family later relocated to Anoka, Minnesota, where he spent his formative years, graduating from Anoka High School. Paul’s thirst for knowledge and his desire to shape young minds led him to St. Cloud University, where he earned his degree and embarked on a career in education, teaching school in Nebraska.
Paul’s sense of duty and love for his country were evident when he joined the United States Navy in 1983. For fourteen years, he served with honor and distinction until his retirement in 1997. After his naval career, Paul returned to Anoka, but his passion for the outdoors could not be contained within city limits. His love for fishing and hunting eventually drew him to the tranquil surroundings of Pierre, South Dakota, in 2011, where he spent his final years immersed in the activities he loved most.
Those who knew Paul will remember him as a kind and loving man, whose generosity knew no bounds. Paul is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Trudy Ode and her husband Wayne of St. Charles, Minnesota, and Lynda Hanson and her husband Dean of Champlin, Minnesota. He was a cherished uncle to his nieces, Marnie Sanders and her husband Mike, Leah Kiser and her husband Random, and his nephews, Lee Hanson, Seth Ode and Scott Ode.
A memorial service to honor Paul’s life and legacy will be held on August 9, 2024 at 2:00pm, at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It will be a time for family, friends, and comrades to gather in remembrance of a man who touched many lives with his loving and generous nature.
