Peggy was born March 11, 1949 to James and Ethel (Dromey) Burley of Blunt, SD.
On October 24, 1965 she married the love of her life Delbert Fast. Three children were born to this union; Delbert “DJ”, LeeJay (infant son lost at birth) and Lori.
Peggy loved cooking and sewing for her family. She sewed most all of the kids clothes when they were younger. Peggy was very active on the farm. She helped with feeding, calving and haying. Peggy enjoyed bottle feeding any animal that needed caring for, including raccoons. When the kids were older she took jobs in town, working at the Cozy Corner in Pierre, Sunset Lodge, The Fireside in Onida and Walmart in Pierre. (She said she was no truck driver and wasn’t hauling gravel).
Other loves of Peggy’s were rummage sales and cookbooks! She and her special friend Anna Pluta would spend hours going to sales and shopping. Peggy was blessed to have Anna in her life!
Peggy was a truly selfless person, always putting others’ needs in front of her own. Even when she started having health issues and had to quit working in town, she stayed positive and kept a great attitude.
Survivors include her husband Delbert of 56 years, two children Delbert “DJ” Fast Jr, of Onida, Lori (Mike) Waldron of Murdo, two granddaughters Mikayla and Sage Waldron, brother William “Bill” Burley of Rapid City, sisters in law Corien Reding of Harrold, Elaine (Jay) Silvers, Darlene (Jerry) Yeager of Blunt and a host of extended family members and friends along with Boots, her border collie that was always beside her.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents James and Ethel Burley, brother Jim Burley, sisters Pat Bowles and Betty Plat, mother and father in law Ed and Ida Fast and brother in law Sheldon Reding.
Thank you to our friends Barb & Don Schneider and Don & Jackie Goddard for always being there for us. We also wish to thank Shannon, Nancy and all the nurses at Avera that helped with Peggy over the years and took such good care of her.
