Pete Eckert | 1946 - 2025

PIERRE, SD – Pete Eckert, 78, of Pierre, SD died on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, SD, he is finally free of all his ailments. A Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00pm on January 10th at Raven’s Roadside Tavern (formally Pete’Ez Tavern) Pierre, SD. Interment of his ashes will be taken place at the Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date.

Milo Peter Eckert Jr. was born on May 31, 1946 to Milo and Shirley (Rhodes) Eckert in Pierre, SD. He grew up in Pierre and at the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served three tours in Vietnam on the USS Maddox (DD731) as a Boiler Technician. Upon discharge he returned to Pierre, SD and worked various jobs including farming, custom harvesting and sheet metal work. He worked for Building and Grounds for the State of South Dakota and the South Dakota Housing Authority. Prior to retirement he owned and operated Pete’Ez Tavern in Pierre.

Pete loved fishing, camping, Fox News and watching football. He had a love/hate relationship with the Vikings football team but was a die-hard fan. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, his beloved cat Mr. Mosby the camping cat and he adored the “apple of his eye” his great grandson.

Pete is survived by his life partner, Judy Uecker of Pierre. His children: Aaron (Kristy) Eckert of Piedmont, SD, Leslie (Brett) Warkenthien of Ft. Pierre. His three grandchildren: Austin (Madison)and great grandson Graysen Eckert of Pierre, SD, Kaylee (Josh) Eckert of McCook NE, and Brooke (Jameson) Rancour of Pierre, SD. His brother Duane Eckert of Pierre, SD and sister Penny Martin.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles.
