Philip H. Kusser, Jr., 84, of Highmore passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021, at the ranch, north of Highmore.
Memorial Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Highmore, with Father Paul Josten, celebrant. A prayer service will be at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the church.
Phil was born to Philip Henry, Sr. and Lillian (Enger) Kusser on January 15, 1937, in Highmore, SD. Phil grew up in south Hyde County and attended Catholic School in Stephan taught by the nuns.
He graduated from Highmore High School in 1956. Phil met Virginia Dancy at a wedding dance, and she became the apple of his eye. They married in September of 1959 and to this union 4 children were born, Justin, Budi, Kip and Ryan.
Phil was an amazing man. He was always happy and friendly, ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed his time spent with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Phil is ever grateful to his son for giving him the last 22 years of his life. One of the most challenging experiences for Phil was teaching his grandchildren to drive. He loved pheasant season when the family came together for the big opening day.
Grateful for having shared his life is wife, Ginger Kusser of Highmore; children: Justin (Veronica) Kusser of Rapid City; Budi Kusser of Deadwood; Kip (Karen) Kusser of Evergreen, CO, and Ryan (Cindee) Kusser of Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Brenton (Sara) Bouzek, Ashley (Lukasz) Dubaj, Katie Kusser, Chloe Kusser, Jackson Kusser, Sofia Cinco, and Nolan Cinco; great grandchildren: Beck and Tanner Bouzek, and Kayden and Khloe Dubaj; sister, Joan Hardwick, brothers-in-law: Fran Mason and Dwaine Straight; and sisters-in-law: Rita Kusser and Karen Kusser.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Philip Henry and Lillian Enger Kusser; brothers, William Kusser and Richard Kusser, and sisters, Monie Weber, Bernice Mason, and Norma Straight.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Phil’s arrangements.
