PIERRE, SD – Rachel Bobby, 72, of Pierre, SD, died Saturday, March 2, 2024 after a short illness. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00pm at New Life Church in Pierre. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, at New Life Church.

Rachel, along with her twin Rebecca, were born on the family farm near South Shore, SD, on April 15, 1951 to Loren and Erna (Haase) Wohlwend. The family had 15 children. In 1955 Loren Senior purchased a farm five miles west of Harrold, SD, where Rachel grew up.

After high school Rachel went to Stewarts School of Hairstyling and National School of Business. She enjoyed doing people’s hair and making them look beautiful for their special events, weddings, proms and King of Hearts. One of her favorite things to do was visit with her customers and make them feel good about themselves.

Through multiple life experiences, Rachel was blessed with four sons. She raised her four boys and helped raise her step-daughter, Melissa, for 8 years. She was proud of them all.

Rachel loved nature and being outdoors. Her time was spent fishing and gardening. She also enjoyed painting pictures of the South Dakota scenery. Rachel also did a lot of baking for her kids. Family gatherings were special to her. One of her favorite things to do was to go to church on Sunday and then to the Ramkota for lunch with family and friends.

Rachel is survived by her 4 sons: Eric Bren of Pierre, Steven (KayLynn) Bren of Mitchell, Matthew (Michelle) Fenske of Pasadena, CA, and Anthony Bobby of Pierre, three grandchildren: Max and Miles Fenske and Natasha “Tashi” Bobby, her five brothers Allen (Sharon) Wohlwend, Effingham, IL, David (Linda) Wohlwend, West Richland, WA, Martin Wohlwend, Sweden, Elam (Sue) Wohlwend, Texas, and Mark (Vera) Wohlwend, Joplin, MO, and six sisters Gretchen Poole, Berwick, ME, Virginia Johnson, Benton, AR, Naomi Shorey, Aberdeen SD, Ramona (Gary) Pfeifer, Hemet, CA, Rebecca (Tom) Watson, Aberdeen SD, and Grace (Aaron) Stadel, Redfield SD, and Rachel was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews, including special nieces Tammy Thompson and Elesha Hayes.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Loren Sr. and Erna Wohlwend; one sister, Coral Stanton; two brothers, Loren Wohlwend Jr. and John Wohlwend as well as several nieces and nephews.
