PIERRE, SD –
Raymond Mack Lewis passed away at Avera St. Mary’s hospital on March 11, 2022. A celebration of life will be held on October 14, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Church in Pierre, South Dakota.
Ray was born on September 16, 1948, to William and Lue Lewis in Gary, Indiana. He graduated from North Judson-San Pierre High School. After graduation he went on to proudly serve his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, which kindled a love for South Dakota that continued through several moves around the country and the world.
A devoted partner and friend, Ray was also known for his integrity, his commitment to his relationship with the Lord, and his servant heart. Serving others was one of his greatest joys. A problem solver by nature, he was always looking ahead and planning ways to meet the needs of those in his community, his home, and around the world. This includes several years serving as a missionary to the Dominican Republic. Ray enjoyed various sports over the years and like any good Hoosier, he greatly enjoyed playing basketball. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, spending time with family and friends, camping, and being outdoors in general. He even developed a love for Nebraska, or at least the Nebraska Sandhills.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lue Lewis; brother Jerry Harber, and brother Bill Harber. He is survived by his long-time partner Jennifer Hanna and her daughter Bayle; his son Jon and daughters Mandy and Marion and their respective families; brother Danny Lewis and family; nieces, nephews, and numerous other family members. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
