Aberdeen, SD-Funeral Service for Regina “Gina” Breitling, 85, of Aberdeen will be 11:00 am, Monday, June 6, 2022, at Aberdeen Alliance Church, 1106 S. Roosevelt St. Pastor Mike Wood will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Regina’s obituary.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00-7:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at the church.
Regina died May 30, 2022, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.
Regina Breitling was born on August 24, 1936, to John A. and Barbara (Stahlecher) Gross, at Bowdle, South Dakota. She was the youngest of 5 children. She went to country school for the first 4 years, then completed grade school and high school in Bowdle. After graduation, she went to college at Northern Normal (NSU) for a degree in teaching and taught school for several years. During this time, she met A. James Breitling and was married August 26, 1956. To this union they had six children. Jackie (Rick) Garner of Rapid City, SD, Rodney (Cheri) Breitling, Sioux Falls, SD. Kim (Joel) Schneider, Mansfield, SD, Brenda (Dan) Dahlgren, Walcott, ND, Bryan (Mary) Breitling, Miller, SD, and Kristi (Sean) Solberg, Plymouth, Minn.
Grateful to share her life are 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews. Family was very important to her. She was very proud of their accomplishments and enjoyed attending their numerous events. She especially enjoyed playing flute with her granddaughter.
She was a kind and gentle soul, a teacher, bookkeeper, farmer; then later called into nursing. She worked in nursing homes, hospitals, clinics, special units, an EMT, and as a school nurse, retiring in 2014. Her hobbies included singing, playing piano and organ, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. For nearly all of her years, she sang in choirs and groups. She enjoyed surrounding herself with friends and family, immersed in fun talk and fellowship.
As a Christian, church was important to her – all of her life, she was baptized at the Venturia Baptist Church. Church and fellowship was instrumental to her relationships. She was a member of Aberdeen Alliance Church. She held many church local and state offices, she was a charter member of Regional Aging Council, co-chair of Aberdeen Area Christian Women, and member of Dakota Sunshine Singers for several years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers three sister-in-laws, and one son-in-law.
