Rex Lloyd Lanz, 76, of Aberdeen, formerly of Miller, SD, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Reck Funeral Home, Miller with Rev. Brian Jones, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery. A visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Rex Lloyd Lanz was born November 3, 1943, in Miller, SD to Arthur Chris and Iona Elaine (Stubsten) Lanz. He grew up on a farm near St. Lawrence, SD and attended grade school in St. Lawrence. Rex attended high school in Miller, SD and graduated from Miller High School with the Class of 1961.
Rex was an Air Force Veteran who enlisted in December of 1964 and served in Thailand during the Vietnam War. While serving his country, Rex earned the Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Following his Honorable Discharge in November of 1968, Rex returned to South Dakota and furthered his education at Southern State Teacher’s College in Springfield, SD, where he majored in Engine Mechanics and received his associates degree in Automotive Technology in May of 1970.
Rex was united in marriage to Linh My Trieu. The addition of his two step-daughters completed their family. Rex was employed as a highway maintenance man for the South Dakota Department of Transportation for over 30 years before retiring in January 2001. Rex was also a member of the Aberdeen VFW. He continued to make Aberdeen his home until the time of his death.
Rex is survived by his wife, Linh My (Trieu) Lanz of Aberdeen; and his step-daughters, Minh_Ngoc Thi Nguyen and Minh_Dung Thi Nguyen, both of Aberdeen. He is also survived by an uncle, Eugene Stubsten of Chattanooga, TN; an aunt, Helen Willis of Falmouth, MA; and several cousins.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Iona Lanz; and his step-father, Russell Roth.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Rex’s arrangements.
