Richard Allen Anderson was born February 3, 1946, in Hoven, SD to William and Mildred (Huyck) Anderson. He attended country school before entering the Redfield State School through the 8th grade. Following his education, Dick lived in Aberdeen where he worked for a local restaurant as a dishwasher. He later moved to Brookings working at SDSU as a janitor, Hy-Vee, and completed his employment time with Advance, not only as a resident but also where he loved working.
Dick loved all sports, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. However, if he had the chance to attend a sporting event of any kind, you could count him in! High school, college, or professional sports, it didn’t matter to him, he just loved being there! Dick also enjoyed time watching TV, dancing, listening to country music, and fishing where he could have a beer.
Dick is survived by his siblings: Walter (Carol) Anderson, Gettysburg, Judith (Ron) Michlitsch, Park Rapids, MN, Constance Kiernan (Joel Christiansen), St. Lawrence, and Roger (Pat) Anderson, Chula Vista, FL; brother-in-law: Rudy Jacobs, Tolstoy; numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; as well as the loving family he gained while living at Advance Group Home, Brookings.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Virginia Mikkelson and Roxy Jacobs; infant sister, Phoebe; and three nieces: Jackie Reyes, Patty Huckfelt, and Clifetta Arbach.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Advance, 1615 Main Ave S, Brookings, SD 57006.
