PIERRE, SD – Richard “Dick” Menning, 87, of Pierre, SD died Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at his home in Pierre surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be from 4-6pm with a 6pm Prayer Service on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pierre.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Pierre.
Dick was born on October 3rd, 1937 to Sam and Delilah (Jacobsen) Menning in Miller, SD. When Dick finished school he worked on a farm, then moved to Fort Pierre, SD to work on the Oahe Dam. Following completion of the dam Dick worked at Holst Motors for a short time, then his life’s ambition was to become the best carpet layer for 37 years.
Dick enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards, boating and being with family. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pierre and the Knights of Columbus in Fort Pierre.
In 1959 he met the love of his life, Dianna Gutenkauf. They married on July 8, 1963 and raised three children: Debora, Duane and Denise.
Dick is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dianna Menning; son, Duane (Shanon) Menning; daughters, Debora (Brian) Isernhagen and Denise Bowman; brothers, Jim (Phylis Carlson) Menning, Simon Jr. (Joann) Menning; grandkids, Makenna (Adam) Glanzer, Cole Severson, Tyson Curtis, Tanner Curtis, Stetson Curtis, Lane (Arielle) Isernhagen, Megan Bowman and Drew Bowman; great-grandkids, Nyxon Curtis, Aleeyah Curtis and Hayzlee Curtis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Jean Menning; niece, Becky Menning and infant great-grandson, Liam Curtis.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Isburg Funeral Chapel of Pierre.
