Robert ‘Bobby’ Kennedy, 72, of Lower Brule, SD passed away on Saturday, February 5th, 2022 at the Sanford Mid-Dakota Medical Center in Chamberlain, SD. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 9th, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule with burial in the Lakeview Cemetery at Fort Thompson. Wake services will be Tuesday at 7:00 pm at the Lower Brule Community Center.
Robert Arnold Kennedy was born October 2nd, 1949 to Howard Taft Sr and Mary Ann (Fogg) Kennedy in Chamberlain, SD. He was 8 when he and his parents were in a car accident. His parents passed away from the accident and he was left with a limp for the rest of his life. He attended school at Immaculate Conception in Stephan, SD and enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving in Korea he volunteered for Vietnam. Following his discharge, he traveled throughout the United States. He decided to become a chef and attended culinary school. He returned to Lower Brule until the time of his passing. For 20 years he was a cook, and later security, at the Golden Buffalo Resort and Casino. Later in life he was overjoyed to learn he shared a daughter with Karen Simmons.
Bobby was always so optimistic, loving, giving and forgiving. He was a kind and easy going man with a comical sense of humor. He loved his job, fishing, joking and having a beer with friends. He is loved and known by many and will be missed dearly.
Robert is survived by his sister Martina (Sunny) Hendrixson, daughter Dawn Kennedy, and grandchildren Monique N Johnson, Bradley C Hanson, and Aurora J Hanson.
He is being welcomed by his parents, Howard and Mary Kennedy; siblings, Rudolph Kennedy, Claudette Kennedy, Aleta (Ambrose) McBride, Vern Hilda Kennedy, Vern Selvester Kennedy, Pearl (Robert) Colombe and Howard Kennedy Jr.
