Robert was born July 1st on a hot summer morning in 1938. Welcoming him into this world was mother and father, Anna Pearl (Hapney) and Edgar Henry. He was the only child and grew up on the family farm south of Highmore. At a very young age, he started working on the farm, planting the fields, harvesting crops, and working with animals. His favorite thing was driving the tractor. He had his first farm accident at the age of 6 where he ran over his mother’s clothesline after she just hung them out, dragging them across the yard. He attended county school until 8th grade, starting the wood-burning stove for the rest of the children daily.
Bob worked for Frank Hawkins building homes and the Highmore swimming pool. On the weekend he worked in the lumber yard. As he became older, he worked at the Coop, Midwest Tires in Miller, and in the 1970’s started DOT until retiring.
At a summer social, he met Katherine Church, united in marriage on August 6, 1966, and made their home in Highmore. To this union, four daughters were born: Katherine, Angela, Nancy, and Roberta.
Bob and Kathy’s favorite activities were fishing, camping at farm island, and having all friends and family join them for a fun-filled weekend of swimming, sharing a meal, and socializing. Later in life, Bob loved collecting South Dakota license plates, gardening, and helping others.
He is survived by three daughters, Katherine, Nancy, and Roberta; and three grandkids: Kristin (Tobias), Eric, and Devin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine; daughter, Angela; and both parents.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Robert’s arrangements.
